Automate your lights to surprise your Valentine

With smart home integration, you can automate your lights to switch on the second your sweetheart comes home.

With JellyFish Lighting, you can surprise your Valentine as soon as they arrive home with a Valentine's Day lighting celebration. All you need to do is set a custom Alexa routine for when motion is detected in your driveway, or when your garage door opens. Follow the steps below to let your love shine on Valentine's Day.

Required:

  • An Amazon Echo device

  • Alexa app for iOS or Android

  • An Alexa-enabled camera, motion detector, or garage door

In this example, we'll set up a Valentine's Day pattern to turn on when motion is detected in the driveway. Before you get started, we recommend creating this routine on Valentine's Day after your Valentine leaves the house, because Alexa doesn't allow scheduling for specific calendar days.

Open your Alexa app & create a routine

Press the + button.

Select "Routine".

Set when your lights should turn on

Tap "Add an event".

Select "Smart Home".

Select your motion detector, camera, or garage door.

Select When Motion is Detected, or When Garage Door is Opened. Then tap "Next".

We recommend setting the time to be around when you expect your Valetine to come home. This way the routine won't accidentally trigger.

Select a custom action to play the Valentine's Day pattern

Press "Add an action".

Select "Custom" action.

Type in "ask JellyFish Lights to play Valentines Purple". Be sure to match this text exactly. Then tap "Next".

Select Alexa to hear from your Echo device

Press the "Save" button.

Select your Echo device and not "This mobile device". Your routine won't work if you don't select your Echo device.

Then tap "Done".

After Valentine's Day, remember to delete this routine.
